Lycie
and Istanbul
For sheer beauty and ancient history, few places on earth rival
Turkey’s captivating eastern Mediterranean coast-line the Turquoise
coast, known to the ancients as Lycia this fabled coast of clear
turquoise blue water is rich with archaeological sites. Fragrant
pine forests tumble down a back clothes of mountain slopes to
end abruptly in red cliffs, secret coves and sandy beaches.
We visit splendid Greco-Roman ruins of the lycian period: Caunos,
Letoon, Pinara, Olympos. With its excellent climate, guaranteed
sunshine, this delightful coastal offers to spend holidays trekking
in a culture, history and nature combining area. Istanbul is
the only city in the world which embraces two continents, one
arm reaching out into Asia, the other into Europe. Considered
as a leading metropolis in the world, for culture, arts, history,
trade and business. The former capital of three successive empires-
Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman- the city is a fascinating mixture
of past and present, old and new, modern and traditional. Christianity
became the official religion of the state and the empire got
the earlier name of the city, Byzantium. As you recline on the
shores of the Bosphorus at sunset contemplating the red evening
light reflected in the windows and on the slender minarets on
the opposite shore you understand, suddenly and profoundly,
why so many centuries ago settlers chose to build on this remarkable
site.

Persian City walks, a Carian fortress, a Greek theatre and
a Byzantine basilica. After visiting of the monuments we
drive to Kayakoy to explore the uninhabited town of Kaya,
the largest Greek ghost town in Asia Minor. After the foundation
of Turkish republic, the governments of Turkey and Greece
chanced the population. And then we arrive to Oludeniz,
its beach takes its eerie name from the secluded lagoon
at the beach's western end. Protected by hills and entered
by a narrow channel, the lagoon is calm during even the
worst storms. From here transfer to Fethiye, some 2400 years
ago, Fethiye (FET-hee-yeh) was the prominent town of Telmessos,

of a Roman bath which was quite popular throughout the Lycian
area. And the theatre, leaning against a natural slope, opposite
the acropolis and the bath. From here we drive to Saklikent,
is a huge valley and a canyon which goes inside 14 km. It is
unbelievably high and narrow between two mountains. You'll have

of the river, is a very cold natural spring which comes out
just where you walk through. After visiting we drive to Xanthos.
When the people of Xanthos, who had bravely tried to defend
